But that orderly existence
Was to quickly disappear.
The Romans had been Christians,
Were civilzed and bright.
Now pagan ways returned once more.
Folk couldn't read and write.
This chapter of our history
That you're meeting on these pages,
Has sometimes been referred to
As the darkest of Dark Ages.
We'll leave these people briefly,
Suspended in their time,
And return to see what happened
